Description
Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) Agar formulations are recommended for use in the cultivation and primary isolation of Legionella spp. in water and other samples suspected of harboring the bacteria.
BCYE with DGVP contains the dyes bromcresol purple and bromothymol blue, along with glycine, vancomycin, and polymyxin. Antibiotics in the medium improve the recovery of Legionella species by inhibiting the growth of contaminating microorganisms, while dyes in the medium facilitate the differentiation and identification of Legionella.
